On Noise in Distributed Amplifiers at Microwave Frequencies

چکیده
Formulas for the noise figure, and the minimum uoisefigure of a multi-link distributed amplifier have been developed. In addition, a relatively simple approximation formula has been devised that predicts the minimum noise figure of a practicaf amplifier design with good accuracy np to frequencies of 9 GHz. Finafly, after the dependence of the noise characteristics on the circnit parameters is discussed, the noise figures of a 218-GHz three-link module are compnted and compared witfr those measured on an actuaf amplifier. The measured data across the 218-GHz band compare favorably with the computed results. Measurements and theory agree that onfy small improvements in noise figure may he achieved, when noise matching the module’s input impedance.

The Use of Cryogenic HEMT Amplifiers in Wide Band Radiometers
Advances in device fabrication, modelling and design techniques have made wide band, low noise cryogenic amplifiers available at frequencies up to 106 GHz. Microwave radiometry applications as used in radio astronomy capitalize on the low noise and large bandwidths of these amplifiers. Radiometers must be carefully designed so as to preclude sensitivity degradations caused by small, low frequen...
متن کاملPeriodic and Guiding Structures at Microwave Frequencies
The paper reviews the properties of periodic and guiding structures which now play an important part in the operation of components, antennas, electron tubes and low-noise amplifiers. An account is first given of dispersive propagation in periodic-loaded lines, showing how the frequency characteristic breaks into pass and stop bands. The formation of forwardand backward-space harmonics and the ...

VDD A 10 GHz CMOS distributed voltage controlled oscillator (DVCO) is designed in a 0.35pm BiCMOS process technology using only CMOS transistors. The oscillator achieves a tuning range of 12% (9.3 GHz to 10.5 GHz) and a phase noise of -1 14 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset from a carrier frequency of 10.2 GHz. The VCO uses two different simultaneous tuning techniques which allow for a coarse and fine I t...
متن کاملQuantum Microwave Radiation and its Interference Characterized by Correlation Function Measurements in Circuit Quantum Electrodynamics
Superconducting circuits provide an attractive architecture for quantum optics experiments in solid state systems. Microwave radiation interacts strongly with individual (macroscopic) quantum systems, and enables to realize emitters of single photons. The statistical property of emitting exactly a single photon as information carrier makes these emitters relevant for quantum communication and i...
